Speech Four – Panel Discussion

Dry-Dry Run Video

Dry-Dry Run Reflection

This was painful to watch, as all videos of myself speaking are. That being said, it was helpful to see how I presented myself because it gave me a sense of what I could improve upon. First, I was moving around a lot in my rolling chair while answering my questions. That’s an easy fix. Just stay still! I also could stand to make bullet points for myself instead of paragraph answers for each of the questions we are covering in our presentation. This would allow for better fluidity in my responses and it would give me some extra room to be creative in my answers. Thankfully, we have a lot of room for error when we actually go to record our clips outside of class. That’s the benefit of making a video, editing!

With regard to things that are working with our project so far, we can say a great deal about our organization. We are satisfied with the structure and content of our presentation, it’s just a matter of fine-tuning it to our liking when we record our final version. We will not have trouble with the rest of this process, at least I don’t think we will. Looking forward to using the media equipment I am borrowing from my other professor.

The second practice round of our presentation went very well, at least in my mind. From our previous practice presentation, we added, subtracted, and polished our lines as close to perfection as we thought possible at the time. Ultimately, we did a great job elevating our speech from the first round to the second round.

With regards to things that were still moving, or not working as well as they could be, I immediately think of my theatrics in both practice rounds. I wanted the practice to be as close to the final as possible, so I ended up including my movements for the final video in our practice runs. This will look a lot better once the final product comes out. My partners have done a fantastic job throughout this project, and I am confident that their work will continue to be great as we finish up today and tomorrow.

I am excited to get this project recorded so that we can go into the editing portion. I’ll be able to tidy up the spots that need it and push all the way through to the end.

Final Video Reflection

This project was great and I am very grateful to Jesse for allowing us to end the semester with this. I was not stressed like I normally am during video projects like these, and I have my group to thank for that. All in all, this project went smoothly from the beginning. Our group was assembled rather hastily, but right as we began to talk, we started to produce an effective first outline. Because of that initial work, we did not need to do any extra work before the following class, which relieved a lot of stress off of my shoulders. After this period of the project, things just seemed to flow downstream with ease. We, in my mind, nailed our dry runs in terms of content, organization, and fluidity and set ourselves up nicely to produce a final panel discussion video (as seen above). My professor, Joe Habraken, was very kind in letting me borrow media equipment to complete this video. We used a nice video camera with a stand, and, of course, the projector located in a classroom in Decary.

I want to use the rest of this space to thank my groupmates, even though they might never see it. Abbi and Sophia are both very capable people and their work output was phenomenal during this process. Not to throw my previous group members from other classes under the bus, but this group was a step above my past group work experiences. I wish them the best of luck in the future in whatever it is that they will do, whether or not that relates to their studies of Marine Affairs. I’m very content with this project.
