Say what’s up to Jared Duffy. Jared is currently a senior at UNE and is a member of the Men’s Lacrosse team. Jared is an Applied Exercise Science major and is also the president of the applied exercise science club. Jared gave us some great tips on how to manage your schoolwork while having a great college experience. We asked Jared about some tips he would have for the first semester of freshman year. Jared said make sure to find a great group of friends, don’t worry about finding a million friends, just focus on building relationships with people who lift you up.
We then asked Jared on why it is important to get to know other students and even faculty on campus. He responded with, “It is important to get to know students and faculty, the professors are here to teach you and help you through your college experience. Being close to your professor can often make the class easier and more enjoyable. Your friends are going to be who you are surrounded with for 4 years so you want strong relationships because these are going to be your friends the rest of your life.”
We also asked Jared for 3 main focuses in your first year of college Jared responded with, “get your work done, make friends, and do stuff, such as get out of your dorm and room, remember you’re in Maine and you have the beach right on campus. Biddeford and Portland are also great places to relax, have fun, and enjoy yourself.”
Lastly we asked Jared for his best short piece of advice for incoming freshmen.
“Set time aside for work, it is very easy to get swept away by the fun aspect of college and forget what you are at school primarily for”.
