In high school, all your teachers say when giving homework or tests is “I’m just preparing you for college.” Something I can tell you is that nothing can prepare you for the difference between classes and professors in high school and in college. Especially going into my first year of college, the first year of school we had after the height of COVID-19, all the students, teachers and staff had to try our best to adapt and work together in our new environment. Studying and homework is what you’ll be doing with most of your free time.

Being in hybrid learning, most of my classes were zooms I did in the comfort of my room or bed. Quickly, I learned that being in my room I had far too many distractions and was struggling to stay focused during class or while trying to do homework. A study from Pepperdine University, says that people associate being in bed with comfort and sleep, thus when you try to do homework in bed you are more likely to fall asleep while trying to work. Along with that it stated that not working on a solid surface makes you less productive. So a tip to staying more productive and focused is finding a space that’s not your bed like the library or study rooms.
