Advice from Colin Otis

Say hello to Colin! He is currently a sophomore at the University of New England studying Medical Biology. As an outgoing person, Colin is willing to share what he has learned from his first year and a half or so of college with you! We interviewed him with a few common questions one might ask someone who has been to college or someone who is currently attending. He was asked about first what a new student should be prepared for, that is not really ever talked about. Colin responded by saying, “It’s important to learn how to manage your time outside of class, you have a lot.” He added “Do it wisely. Use it to get the most out of your college experience.” We asked him next for a few good tips an incoming freshman could use to their advantage. He said that you should always have a plan of what you are going to do in your mind. Expanding, Colin said that scheduling out a week ahead of you, at least, will make your life a lot easier, and in a lot of cases, lead to less stress. On top of this, we asked what the top three focuses should be for a new student here at UNE. His three main focuses his freshman year were as follows: “do not let your work get out of hand, give yourself time to have a college experience, and do not underestimate the freedom of college (Colin, during COVID may or may not have put on the famous freshman fifteen).” Under the picture we have put in of Colin, you can see his best piece of advice for you.

“Just have fun with it.” -Colin Otis
