Meet the authors! We are all currently attending the University of New England studying a variety of topics. We are confident that our knowledge and experiences from our college career will be beneficial to you. Every new student has their own form of anxiety coming into this new atmosphere. This handbook should help put a few, if not a lot of those nerves, to rest.
First off, we have Colby! He is a Communications major here at UNE, set to graduate in 2024, who also absolutely loves his classes. As a returning sophomore, he had to endure the COVID-19 virus and its complications during his first year here. Colby completed the first year during COVID successfully and learned a lot of things from his classes (mainly general education) and can apply what he learned to his everyday life. A couple of activities that he likes doing are hiking, really any type of exercise, and meeting new people. If you see him on campus, say hello!
Second, we have Madi! She is a first year student here at UNE and is a communications major. She is on the varsity field hockey team – come to a home game, the team loves having support! Madi is still adjusting to the first year college experience, especially having to juggle athletics and academics. Even being a first year student, she has already learned valuable lessons which she will carry with her throughout her next three years and beyond college. Madi loves being adventurous, trying new foods, and working out. She is super social and outgoing, so don’t be afraid to say hi!
Third, we have Sophia! She is a returning sophomore and a business administration major with a minor in political science. Going through the first year of college during COVID-19 having those restrictions along with being introduced to college level classes through remote learning was pretty hard. Yet, it allowed her to learn beneficial lessons about herself, life and as a student which ultimately helped her succeed in the end! Sophia loves meeting new people, music, traveling and anything active hiking, or kayaking!
Fourth, we have Kyle! He is a senior and a Sports and Recreation Management major. He is on the Men’s Lacrosse team here at UNE. Kyle is hoping to improve his communication skills because he hopes to get into coaching lacrosse after graduating. Kyle is from California so Maine is a huge change for him but he loves the difference especially watching the seasons change and the enormous amounts of snow.
